Leaders Mr. Paul Cheng was
born in Hong Kong in 1962 and at the age of six began informal training
with Cheng Mook Shen till the age of twelve. He came to the United States
with his mother, father and younger siblings. Paul continued his training,
learning Jeet Kune Do and Kung Fu until about the age of sixteen. He refrained from
the martial arts until 1993 when he met the late Ozzie Wright III of Karate
#1 and obtained his black belt in Tae Kwon Do in 1997. Paul worked for
Karate #1 teaching children and adult classes and an afterschool program
for the Philadelphia School District in Germantown. After the passing
of Ozzie Wright III, Paul continued private training with another black
belt of Karate #1 & taught privately to police officers and those
willing to learn. In 2002 Mr. Cheng
(Founder of "Cheng's Martial Arts System") opened Chengs Martial
Arts School in Drexel Hill, PA., where in the first year; took one of
his students to compete in the “2003 US Junior Olympic Taekwondo
Championships” in Florida and won the gold medal in his division.
Mr. Cheng created in 2003 “Team Cheng “Karate Team and is
manager and coach. The team competes in local, regional, and national
tournaments. By 2004 the team had earned recognition and in 2005 the team
was inducted to World Karate Union Hall of Fame as National Karate Team
of the Year and also in 2007. In 2006, ten members of the team traveled
to the US Open in Orlando, Florida and received the Elite 8 Fourth Place
Award, among many others. Mr. Cheng is currently ranked as one of the
top competitor in his black belt divisions in the World Karate Union and
United Martial Arts Referees Association. Mr. Cheng was inducted in the
World Karate Union Hall Of Fame as Instructor of the Year 2004 along with
in Action Magazine's Inductions for the same title. 2007 Universal Martial

Clayton McCombs Sensei
Clayton McCombs is a 7th Degree Black Belt under Master George Dillman
and teaches experienced martial artists in "Pressure Point"
attacks here at Cheng's Martial Arts School. The best part of learning
"Pressure Point" attacks is you do not have learn a new style
of martial arts or give up your current one. He will instruct you with
the forms and techniques you already know; it's been hidden from you in
what you have learned. This enables you to use self defense that works
without great strength and Physical ability. Martial artists from any
style are welcome to join this class. Sensei
Jade Cheng is a 1st Degree Black Belt in the Chang Moo Kwan System. She
began training at Karate #1 as a child and continues to train with her
father, Paul Cheng, and has some knowledge in the art of pressure points
from Sensei McCombs. Jade enjoys working with kids and has earned great
respect from them as an instructor. Jade is currently attending Penn State
Main Campus, majoring in Early Elementary Education with option in Early
Childood Education. Sensei
Henry received his Black Belt on August 19, 2006. He has been with our
school for five years. As a black belt, he oversees the intermediate classes
along with sparring. Sensei
Joshua Cheng: Instructor (Black belt earned on 08/16/08) Mark is a one of our new black belts. He enjoys teaching
the students. Sensei Mark is in charge of CMAS's YMCA account. Jim is
a first degree black belt and has been studying Tae Kwon Do since he was
9 years old. He continues to train with Sensei Paul Cheng, and is one
of our instructors for the Karate program at the Lansdowne YMCA as well
as here at the studio. Jim is a graduate of Monsignor Bonner High School
and is currently enrolled in the Architecture program at Temple University. Junior Assistants (blue and red belts) Gymnastics Instructor |
